The Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra presents a concert in which audiences will experience the pulse of Mexican musical culture – rhythmic intensity, contrast, energy, and vibrant orchestral colour. Twentieth-century Mexican composers created music that blends classical form with a vivid, recognisable, and passionate expressive character.
The programme features works that have become milestones of Mexican symphonic music. These pieces reflect a strong sense of national identity, rich folkloric energy, and rhythmic vitality, having played a significant role in the development of Latin American orchestral tradition. Alongside them, the concert also presents one of the most radiant examples of the European symphonic repertoire – Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, a work distinguished by its lyricism, nature-inspired atmosphere, and folk-inflected melodies that embody the spirit of Czech musical heritage.
Dvořák’s symphony broadens the stylistic perspective of the programme, offering a compelling contrast between the rhythmic expressiveness of Mexican music and the melodic warmth of Central European symphonic tradition. Together, these works reveal how different cultures speak a shared musical language through the symphony orchestra.
At the podium of the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra will be Jorge Vazquez, an internationally acclaimed conductor praised for the clarity of his interpretations, technical precision, and ability to bring composers’ intentions vividly to life. In recent years, he has rapidly established himself on the international stage, collaborating with orchestras across Europe, North and South America, and Asia. Numerous awards at international competitions testify to his consistent artistic development. Latin American symphonic music holds a special place in his repertoire, which he presents as an independent and stylistically mature tradition.
This concert is intended for listeners seeking music shaped by rhythm, colour, and clear dramatic direction, as well as for those eager to experience the symphony orchestra in a broader cultural context. An evening where the vibrant energy of Mexican music meets the luminous lyricism of the European symphonic tradition.
